Since you asked so nicely Di na mo I believe this to be the bloom of a fishhook cactus that I found just off the old Potash Road, the unpaved part, just outside Moab. The road that ends up climbing the harrowing Schafer switchbacks into Canyonlands NP where your vehicle feels the size of a freakin cruise ship and you hold your breath and go about 2 mph.
