Winding, Crooked Trails

Shared Expressions and Musings with a Connection to the Origin of Things and a Surly Hatred of Progress and Development along with a Churlish Resistance to all Popular Improvements (except for HDTV and Dolby 5:1 surround sound and maybe Books on CD) (thanks Ed)

Artfully Dodged

Continuing in the artistic vein, this is the Entombment of Atala by Girodet. The story is Atala was a young Christian girl who was to take the veil and who preferred to poison herself rather than succumb to carnal love. Her attitude toward pleasures of the flesh differs considerably from most of yours. I was originally drawn to this work by her lovely nipply breasts under the thin gown. The young man hugging her legs is checking for a pulse or determining how warm the body is. I think this piece is from the French Necrophiliac Period but I could be mistaken. You would have to check with either Lewis or Ed, resident art critics. I am merely attempting to bring some sophistication to our little world, not to imply a scarcity, just sayin'.
